The Drive & The Passion to get dirty!
Mud riding is a huge deal to a lot of quad riders and we here at Mud Addicts are proud to boast our passion for mud too; the birth for this passion...
2009 High Lifter Mud Nationals
April 1-5th
(The Ride of a Lifetime)!
We started off on a Thursday morning April 2, 2009 from Cedar Creek, TX. Destination: Mud Creek, the site of the 2009 High Lifter Mud Nationals, located in Jacksonville, TX. It took us approximately 4.5 hours of driving, but our experience was worth every minute of it!
There were over 8000 enthusiasts packed in every nook and cranny of this 4000 acre park. A sight that surpasses no other and unless you've experienced this first hand, I can't even begin to describe it. It's an addiction that once you've felt, there's no going back!
I've always been an outdoor enthusiast, but I've never sported the idea of mud and getting dirty as a hobby! But after 3 hard days of mud play, crowds (and I mean CROWDS from every walk of life and background), the endless parade of ATVs (from 3-wheeled Honda to the bad ass Renegade Can-am), beer, noise and hours of nonstop riding - I was not only shocked, overwhelmed but HOOKED!
Since that first event, for me, we have made it a point to ride nearly every other weekend at parks all over Texas, hiting as many events as we can. Our adventures have been costly, comical, challenging, frustrating and muddy, but we'll continue to skip an electrical, phone, truck payment or just go without to feed our next ride addiction.
Who the heck are we? We're your average everyday Joe Blow!
Leon (aka Speeder) is a truck driver by trade and you can be sure his routes are scheduled around his rides! Leon has been riding much longer than I. His addiction is speed, (his previous ride - a Raptor, but his passion for speed humbled him with a rather intimate experience with a burning barrel, barn and turtle...but I'll save that story for later), but now sporting a Can-Am Renegade mud finds him with the lack of fender flares - I guess an addiction that wants him more than he wants it. However, a few mud splatters and it's on. The addiction surfaces.
I, Tabitha, am a mother of four and don't for one minute think that slows me down from feeding my mud addiction - Leon and I just pack up the crew and muddy them up right along side us. I sport a 700 King Quad (not my first choice, but a pretty good ride for a beginner a year and a half ago). Next ATV - Can-Am Outlander! My ATV skills have gradually improved over the past year and a half and since my riding partners are all guys; I've had to learn to hang with the best of them. So, this girl sucks it up and attempts (for the most part) anything they will (within reason, my addiction def. does not drive stupidity). I'm a veteran medical transcriptionist, but I'd miss a day of work for a good ole mud bog anyday!
The kids....Chase (15) - His ride Razor, and he's pretty darn good at it. He's a hard core mountain biker, but sports mudding as an equal. He loves a challenge and as a teenager the addiction feeds lack of common sense. As a mother I cringe; but go with the flow!
Kasey (12); Tegan (10); Zen (7) - my favorite passengers and ride companions! There is nothing more invigorating than watching the mud addiction take over. Growing up doing what we all loved to do but got scolded for (gettin dirty)! Not this crew - we drive the passion, encourage the mud and the wetter, muddier, harder, deeper the challenge the better!
With all that....we hope you'll join us as our passion and drive to get dirty inspires and motivates this blog.
